Google is updating its analytics platform. You’ve likely received emails from Google Analytics mentioning this upcoming change. Here’s the cliff notes version of what you need to know about this update.
You’re in Good Hands
If you’ve worked with us at VantagePoint to get a website pulled together, odds are really good your website was built by and is currently maintained by RV Tech Solutions. They’re a great, local partner and have helped you prepare for this update already.
Google Analytics is Retiring Universal Analytics (UA)
Google Analytics UA is the version of Google Analytics that you’re currently using. According to notifications that Google has sent out to its users, Universal Analytics will be going away. This version of Google Analytics will stop processing new hits as of July 1, 2023.
What is GA4?
According to Google, GA4 (Google Analytics 4) is a new property designed for the future of measurement:
- Collects both website and app data to better understand the customer journey
- Uses event-based data instead of session-based
- Includes privacy controls such as cookie-less measurement, and behavioral and conversion modeling
- Predictive capabilities offer guidance without complex models
- Direct integrations to media platforms help drive actions on your website or app
What do I need to do now?
Our partners and web gurus at RV Tech Solutions have waved their magic wands and gotten everything set up for you so long as you have a care plan with them. As a part of this setup, you should know that GA4 is now also tracking on your website in addition to your “UA” property. Here’s a screenshot example of the dual tracking settings we put in place (not your codes). In order to add the Measurement Protocol API we had to accept these terms:
User Data Collection Acknowledgement
I acknowledge that I have the necessary privacy disclosures and rights from my end users for the collection and processing of their data, including the association of such data with the visitation information Google Analytics collects from my site and/or app property.
Note: You can review this in Admin > Data settings > Data collection
