Why You Should Set Your Facebook and LinkedIn IDs

May 7, 2025 by Katie Goodthunder

An Easy Win for Brand Visibility, Consistency, and Connection

At VantagePoint, we’re big believers in making the most of the tools you already have. One of the simplest ways to boost your visibility and strengthen your brand online is by setting—and standardizing—your Facebook and LinkedIn IDs.

This is one of those small-but-mighty updates that helps ensure your business shows up clearly, professionally, and consistently across platforms.

What Are Social Media IDs, and Why Do They Matter?

Your Facebook and LinkedIn IDs are the unique usernames that appear in your public URLs.

 For example:

  • facebook.com/YourBusinessName
  • linkedin.com/company/YourBusinessName

Setting these IDs gives you a clean, custom URL that’s easy to find, easy to share, and easy to tag. It’s a small detail that can make a big difference, especially when it comes to brand consistency and discoverability.

Here’s why it’s worth the few minutes it takes to set yours:

  • You’ll make it easier for others to tag your page. Whether it’s a partner business giving you a shout-out or a client sharing your content, having a clean and recognizable ID makes it easy for others to mention and link to your page.
  • You’ll show up professionally and consistently. Using the same ID across platforms helps reinforce your brand identity and reduces confusion. It’s a simple way to keep everything aligned.
  • You’ll improve searchability. Clean, branded URLs are not only easier for people to remember—they’re better for search engines, too.

How to Set Your Social Media IDs

On Facebook (Business Page):

  1. Go to your Page.
  2. Click Settings → Page Info.
  3. Find the “Username” field and click Edit.
  4. Type in your desired ID and confirm availability.

On LinkedIn (Company Page):

  1. Navigate to your Company Page.
  2. Click Admin Tools → Edit public URL.
  3. Update your ID to reflect your brand and click Save.

Tip: Choose an ID (username) that’s simple, aligned with your brand, and consistent across all your platforms. Avoid symbols or numbers that make tagging tricky.

How to Share and Use Your New IDs

Once your social media IDs are updated, don’t keep them a secret! Here’s how to use and share them effectively:

  • Print Materials
List your handles simply and clearly:
    @YourBusinessName
Great for business cards, flyers, and brochures where space is limited and visuals matter.
  • Website and Email
Always include the full URL when linking digitally:

This makes it easier for users to click directly and ensures they land on the correct page.
  • Email Signatures & Bios
Add clickable links or shortened versions with your full name or company handle to keep things clean and professional.
  • Client Communication & Proposals
Share your handles at the bottom of documents or in onboarding packets to help new clients connect with you online.

Taking that extra step to update how and where your social presence is listed helps reinforce your professionalism—and gives your audience a consistent, easy path to follow and engage with your brand.

A Simple Step That Supports the Bigger Picture

This quick update is something we often recommend during the foundational stage of brand building. It’s not flashy, but it’s incredibly effective. And when your social media IDs are aligned, your brand becomes easier to find, easier to tag, and easier to trust.

At VantagePoint, we believe your story matters. Marketing is the curation of that story—and details like your Facebook and LinkedIn IDs are part of how it’s told. It’s not just about being consistent. It’s about being clear, intentional, and ready to connect with the people who need what you offer.

You know your business. We know marketing. Together, we’re at a VantagePoint.
